U-turn by Microsoft will see the return of the start button in Windows 8

When Windows 8 hit the shelves users were left a bit confused about the lack of a start button, something that's been included in the Windows operating system since Windows 95 was released back in August 1995.

Microsoft have taken to their Blogging windows blog to confirm the reintroduction of the start button: "We've improved the way you navigate to Start with the mouse by changing the Start 'tip' to be the familiar Windows logo," the company said on it's blog, "The new tip appears anytime you move the mouse to the bottom left corner of the screen, and is always visible on the taskbar when on the desktop."

Scam email alert: "PayPal : Unlock Credit Card Now"

Did you know that Paypal offer a credit card?  Well the scammers do and for the first time today I received a scam email (click here to view the email) that was intended to trick me into providing my Paypal login details.

If I were to have fallen for this trick it would have given the scammers access to my Paypal account and allowed them to empty it of any funds and to use it to pay for anything they fancied (remember that your Paypal account is linked, in most cases, to your bank account or credit card).

Watch out for the "Microsoft telephone scam"

We'd like to alert our customers to what has becoming known as the “Microsoft Virus telephone scam” We're still getting reports many months after it was first reported.

Yesterday another gentleman came in to see us and told a familiar story. A very professional young man, pretending to be from “Microsoft” called to advise him that a destructive virus had been detected on his computer. He was advised that it needed immediate attention in order to retain his data. The problem could be resolved remotely and further protected for the future on payment of a £125 fee.

PC repair training courses now available from Manor Solutions

Our Computer Repair training course is designed by computer engineers based on years of practical experience repairing the computers of the people of Swindon and the surrounding areas.

In the past, when we’ve looked for courses for new members of staff all we could find were classroom based courses that didn’t provide the necessary practical skills to allow those taking the course to jump in at the deep end so to speak and get straight to work.
